Sustainability is a basic principle in Ecoener, not only of our business, but also of our management model. It is an additional dimension of our commitment to excellence in our mode of operating.
We have always set our sights on the long term and committed ourselves to the creation of value, ensuring balance and respect for the natural habitat and for the development of the communities where we operate.
We are careful at all times with regard to the impacts of our activity on people and on the environment, contributing responsibly to the progress of society.
For Ecoener, integrity means always doing what is correct, carrying out an activity in a responsible, honest and transparent manner. Through the Code of Conduct, which constitutes an integral part of our values and our business culture, we establish a series of principles that represent a unique way of proceeding and that we extend to each of our projects and the places where we operate. Through this Code, we seek to consolidate an ethical culture accepted by all our employees, suppliers and third parties associated with Ecoener.
Sustainability is a strategic priority in everything Ecoener does. Our goal is to ensure that in each of our actions, a balance is kept between the economic, the social and the environmental aspects. The goal is to propitiate the generation of value in the long term, addressing the expectations of our main interest groups.
In addition to the general commitments included in the Sustainability Policy, we consider that our responsible action must be based on the following pillars:
Sustainable economic growth
The long-term view of projects is the main way to protect investments; in addition, we are secure proper risk management and establishing a balanced, transparent and clear relationship with the investment partners.
Ecoener bases its actions on ethics and transparency, ensuring compliance with the law and tax regulations wherever we are located. We build lasting alliances with our suppliers and partners.
We adopt the best practices for conserving and preserving nature, integrating our installations in it, ensuring processes of due diligence with strict compliance with environmental legislation. We are a key player for energy transition and the fight against climate change.
Respect for human dignity is a premise in our mode of operating. We ensure work environments with dignity and we promote the development of the local communities in the territories where we are located. We consider dialogue with interest groups and stakeholders our main tool for building solid relationships.
We believe that carrying out an activity responsibly is sharing and creating value with the people who, directly or indirectly, are affected by it. Whether they are our workers and collaborators or the local communities with which we maintain relations in those places where we operate.
Even in the same way that we know that each installation needs a specific design to safeguard the environment, a commitment to the territories where we work is also needed.
We act in accordance with our policies of Human Rights and Community Relations. And in addition, we are proactive in the response to local challenges, articulating alliances that improve the well-being of people.
Our commitment is to protect, respect and oversee the fulfilment of human rights. We always act in the best manner, preventing our activities from causing potential negative impacts on human rights, with the commitment to reparation if this should occur. And we pay special attention to the most vulnerable communities, specifically the indigenous populations and ethnic minorities.Community Relations Policy
Econer recognizes that initiatives taken locally help to strengthen ties with the communities. Our goal is to facilitate the generation of value, contribute to social development and establish solid relationships of trust. We work by listening, and with respect, to advance with the communities that are in the territories where Ecoener operates. And this Policy establishes the foundation that will make it possible to strengthen existing and future relations with the local communities
In Honduras we support the social and economic development projects of three communities that live near our Llanos del Sur photovoltaic plant. Also, on specific occasions such as the current sanitary crisis due to COVID-19 we collaborate in shipping emergency aid.
And in Guatemala, we are partners of Fedecovera in Las Fuentes II hydroelectric power plant. A cooperative whose mission is to improve the living conditions of 30,000 small producers of cocoa, turmeric, coffee and tea of the Q’eqchies and Poqomchies communities, while promoting respect for and protection of their culture.
Social involvement with the territories where we operate forms a part of our business work. Thus, we have social action plans in collaboration with different city halls of Galicia, financing projects of community interest in the surrounding area of our installations.
Environmental sustainability is part of our essence. Our renewable energy installations and our operations respect the environment, because we are custodians of the most valuable legacy we have: nature. We want to generate energy that contributes to minimizing the effects of climate change and to establishing a sustainable model. This is why our installations respect the environment.
Action for the climate
The activity of Ecoener in Guatemala is supported by a program of activities (PoA) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, for the purpose of supporting projects that involve the reduction of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and with form part of the Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol.
Thus, the Las Fuentes II hydroelectric power plant is framed within the only hydraulic PoA existing in Central America.
