Sustainability is a basic principle in Ecoener, not only of our business, but also of our management model. It is an additional dimension of our commitment to excellence in our approach.

We have always adopted the long view, and are committed to creating value, ensuring balance and respecting the natural habitat and the development of the communities where we operate.

We take great care with respect to the impact of our activity on people and on the environment, and contribute responsibly to the progress of society.

For us at Ecoener, integrity means always doing the right thing, operating in a responsible, honest and transparent manner. Through the Code of Conduct, which is an expression of our values and an integral part our business culture, we set out a series of principles that represent a unique approach that we extend to each of our projects and to every place where we operate. Sustainability Policy

Sustainability is a strategic priority in everything Ecoener does. Our goal is to ensure that all of our actions strike a balance between the economic, social and environmental dimensions. The goal is to drive value creation over the long term while addressing the expectations of our main stakeholders.

In addition to the general commitments included in the Sustainability Policy, we consider that our responsible action must be based on the following pillars:

Sustainable economic growth

The main way to protect investments is to take a long-term view in projects; we also take measures to ensure we have an appropriate approach to risk management and a balanced, transparent relationship with investment partners.

Good governance

Ecoener operates on the basis of ethics and transparency, ensuring compliance with the law and tax regulations wherever we are located. We build lasting alliances with our suppliers and partners.

Environment

We adopt best practices for conserving and preserving nature by integrating our installations into the surroundings, ensuring due diligence and strict compliance with environmental legislation. We are a key player in the energy transition and the fight against climate change.

Social

Respect for human dignity is a premise of our approach. We provide decent work environments and promote the development of the local communities where we are located. We see stakeholder engagement as the main tool for building solid relationships.

We believe that operating responsibly means sharing and creating value with the people who are affected, either directly or indirectly: our employees, contractors and the local communities.

Just as we know that each installation needs a specific design to safeguard the surroundings, it is also necessary to make a commitment to the territories where we work.

We have adopted and conform to policies with regard to Human Rights and Community Relations. We are also proactive in addressing local challenges, by building alliances that improve people’s well-being.

Human Rights Policy: a mode of operating

We are committed to protecting, respecting and ensuring fulfilment of human rights. We aspire to exemplary conduct, ensuring that our activities do not have a negative impact on human rights and we are committed to remedying any impairment that might arise. We focus particularly on the most vulnerable communities, specifically indigenous populations and ethnic minorities.

Community Relations Policy

Ecoener recognizes that initiatives at local level help to strengthen ties with the communities. Our goal is to facilitate value creation, contribute to social development and establish solid relationships of trust. We do this by listening and being respectful, while helping to advance the communities in the territories where Ecoener operates. This Policy establishes the foundation for strengthening existing and future relations with local communities.

In Honduras, we support social and economic development projects in three communities near our Llanos del Sur photovoltaic plant. Additionally, on specific occasions such as the current health crisis due to COVID-19, we provide assistance with shipping emergency aid.

InGuatemala, we partner with Fedecovera in the Las Fuentes II hydroelectric plant. The mission of this cooperative is to improve the living conditions of 30,000 small producers of cocoa, turmeric, coffee and tea from the Q’eqchies and Poqomchies communities, while promoting respect for and protection of their culture.

Social involvement with the territories where we operate forms a part of our business approach. We have social action plans in cooperation with municipal governments in Galicia, funding projects of community interest in the areas surrounding our installations.

Environmental Commitment

Environmental sustainability is one of our core values. Our renewable energy installations and our operations respect the environment, because we are custodians of humanity’s most valuable legacy: nature. We aim to generate energy that contributes to minimising the effects of climate change and to establishing a sustainable model. For that reason, our facilities respect the environment.
