Peneda Hydroelectric Power Plant

Peneda Hydroelectric Power Plant

The Peneda plant is located on the banks of the Arnoya river in the municipality of Ribeiro, Galicia. This has been a wine-producing area since Roman times.

We designed a weir with a two-stage fish ladder, taking advantage of the natural slope. This enables fish to migrate upriver. There is an electrode barrier to deter fish from entering the diversion structure.

The water is piped to the turbine building through a penstock. All the electromechanical equipment is located inside the building so as to minimise its landscape impact.

The building is made of stone and wood. The copper roof extends down to the water, enabling the building to blend into the surroundings.
